Impact of solid Earth tide models on GPS coordinate and tropospheric time series

چکیده
[1] Unmodelled sub-daily periodic signals can propagate into time series of daily geodetic coordinates and tropospheric estimates at various different frequencies. Geophysical interpretations of geodetic products, particularly at seasonal timescales, can therefore be affected by poorly modelled signals in the geodetic analysis. In this study, we use two solid Earth tidemodels (IERS2003 and IERS1992) and analyses of global GPS data to demonstrate how this process occurs. Aliased annual and semi-annual signals are evident in the vertical component of the GPS time series, with the amplitudes increasing as a function of latitude up to approximately 2.0 and 0.4 mm, respectively. Tropospheric zenith delay estimates showdifferences at the2mmlevel,with a dominant diurnal frequency. These results have significant implications in regard to the geophysical interpretation of GPS time series computed using the outdated IERS1992 model and, more generally, for any misor unmodelled periodic signals that affect geodetic sites.Citation: Watson, C., P. In this paper a practical method for tropospheric effects on GPS derived coordinates in absolute mode is presented. GPS observations at the permanent GPS stations can be used as source of information for the modeling. The developed model is a time-dependent model and as such differs from usual tropospheric models, which are based on atmospheric parameters, i.e. temperature, pressure and humidit...
متن کاملMitigation of Tropospheric Delay on InSAR Interseismic Displacements
One of the major challenges of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technique is the existence of tropospheric effect on the results. The tropospheric effect is due to the changes of atmospheric parameters including temperature, pressure, and humidity between the master and slave images. In this research, two different methods based on spatial-temporal filters and calculation of pha...
متن کاملInvestigation of MODIS mission capability in tropospheric delay estimation for precise point positioning
Tropospheric delay is always considered as one of the factors limiting the accuracy of GPS. In this paper, the three-dimensional ray tracing technique is proposed to calculate the tropospheric delay. The ability of the MODIS mission to calculate the tropospheric delay is also examined. For this purpose, an area in central Europe was selected and a MODIS acquisition on 2008/08/01 was studied. In...
متن کاملApplication of toPEX Altimetry for Solid Earth deformation Studies
This study demonstrates the use of satellite radar altimetry to detect solid Earth deformation signals such as Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA). Our study region covers moderately flat land surfaces seasonally covered by snow/ice/vegetation. The maximum solid Earth uplift of ~10 mm yr-1 is primarily due to the incomplete glacial isostatic rebound that occurs around Hudson Bay, North America. ...
متن کاملGPS Jamming Detection in UAV Navigation Using Visual Odometry and HOD Trajectory Descriptor
Auto-navigating of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in the outdoor environment is performed by using the Global positioning system (GPS) receiver. The power of the GPS signal on the earth surface is very low. This can affect the performance of GPS receivers in the environments contaminated with the other source of radio frequency interference (RFI). GPS jamming and spoofing are the most serious a...
